Becoming Content

Make This Priority Numero Uno

Let’s say you win $1,000,000.00.

It’s a pretty good day.

Tomorrow you lose $1,000,001.00.

It’s a pretty bad day.

The only thing better than winning a million dollars is becoming truly content with winning it and with losing it.

Most of us look for satisfaction by searching for better circumstances.

There’s a much better way.

Instead, become content today.

Why?

Because changing your circumstances is difficult and almost never works. Circumstances are tricky things — as soon as you find the one you’ve been looking for it can disappear.

The secret to getting things to go better for you is not to change the things but to change yourself.

Many of us try to find this change by attempting to will-power contentment into existence or uncovering it from somewhere deep within ourselves. But if you are to truly find ongoing peace and constant contentment in the midst of shifting circumstances you are going to need to receive them from a steady source located outside of your circumstances.

I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. I can do all this through him who gives me strength. Philippians 4:12–13

Think about what you could do with your time, your energy, and your prayers, if they were not used up with trying to change your circumstances.

What if you woke up to your life everyday already feeling content and experiencing peace and joy.

The secret to getting everything to magically go better for you?

Become content.

Go to school and pursue a degree in contentment. With this degree you will be sure to find a job you can enjoy.

Of course this is difficult, but most of us are not really pursuing contentment, we’re trying to, or thinking anxious thoughts about, changing our circumstances.
